The Family Pet offers both in hospital and home euthanasia for most pets.

Euthanasia is a process that many people prefer not to talk about until they have to. Unfortunately it is a subject that many pet owners may eventually have to deal with. Making the decision to end a pet's life is never easy. It is an intensely personal decision that can only be made by the pet owner. There's always the question "how will I know when it's time?" Your vet will be able to advise you on what the options are and make a recommendation but they will not make the decision for you. There are a number of situations in which euthanasia is the kindest, most loving choice.

Discuss with your vet whether or not you wish to be with your pet when it is euthanized. It may be less stressful for your pet to be able to hear a familiar voice.  Knowing that your old friend suffered no pain and met a peaceful end may comfort you.  However, if you are frightened or anxious your pet may sense this and may also become upset.

Remember that everyone is different and there is no right or wrong way to deal with this situation.  It is what you feel is best for you.

Cremation services are provided by a trusted pet crematory company.  There is a choice of a non-private cremation with no return of ashes, or a private cremation after which your pet's ashes will be returned to you.

Pets are part of the family and it's normal to grieve.  Grief and even feelings of guilt are sometimes experienced. People grieve in different ways. There are no hard and fast rules.

Be  aware that other pets in the family also frequently grieve for the loss of their companion.  They exhibit their grief by a lack of appetite, loss of desire to play, or a mild lethargy. These behaviors should be mild and short-lived. Be sure to contact The Family Pet to assure there's not a medical reason involved.

What happens if my pet dies unexpectedly at home? If this happens, contact The Family Pet and we will gladly arrange cremation services for you.

"I recently had to euthanize our family pet, Cleo. It was a difficult decision that I sought the advice of the vets at The Family Pet where my dog had been a patient for 17 years. They were compassionate and informative. The whole process was humane and the attention to emotional detail was phenomenal." ~ Molly N.

" I've taken my dog and cat here for about 2 years and been happy with the care they received. This review is specifically about my recent experience in putting down my 18 year old cat and the compassionate service we received from Dr. Sine and the whole staff. My cat had a seizure about 2 months ago and they squeezed us in at the end of the day and Dr. Sine was very nice and tried to figure out the best treatment for him at the time. He was very old and had multiple issues. A few weeks later I realized he really wasn't getting better so took him back in, saw Dr. Sine again and asked for a thorough assessment of him. She spent over an hour with us, chatting with me, examining him and ultimately telling me that he had so many things wrong with him that it was probably time to consider saying good-bye. She explained all the options and prescribed pain meds to take home and keep him comfy while my family came to grips with this. I took him back in this past week to be euthanized and it was a very quick and peaceful experience. This was the first time I ever had to put down a pet and Dr. Sine was very compassionate with me as I was a bit of a weepy mess. She was very loving towards my cat, encouraged me to talk about him, his nicknames, how I adopted him, etc. Going through this experience sucks, no way to avoid that, but I want to express my appreciation for Dr. Sine and the staff for making it as peaceful as possible." ~ M.S.
